DJ Salazar

Bio: 

DJ is a San Luis Valley native. Being from the Valley, DJ grew up fortunate being able to enjoy the outdoors. As DJ progressed through life the one thing that never changed was his passion for helping people and the outdoors. DJ worked a nine-month contract gig at the Veterans Center at Home Lake in Monte Vista, Colorado as a driver. DJ also took the time to take some of the residents out on the lake to fish when he was not working. DJ learned so much from the residents talking about life and how the world works. When his contract ended, Covid-19 took its course and it shut down opportunities to go back and volunteer to take veterans out. Fast forward two years and DJ came up with a plan to start an organization that would get veterans outdoors utilizing these meetings to pass along resources. Then the universe did what the universe does and lined him up with passion-driven people with like minds, and they birthed the Valley Veterans ReCreation non-profit. DJ is also an Outdoor Embajador for San Luis Valley Great Outdoors, he leads the community in ice fishing socials where he provides gear through his business El Valle Outdoors and the Cabin at El Valle Ranch. DJ also volunteers his time taking kids from the Monte Vista Kids Connection to go fishing and to help with Hunters Education classes at the Ski Hi Complex. DJ is also the Executive Director at SLV Community Solutions.
